OMG - I can't tell you how much I love, love, love Goldstar Events.  It's my "go-to" for events, concerts, sports, theater and more in my area.  PLUS, tickets are at a major discount, and for some events, the tickets are even free!  What I love most about it (besides the cheap-o tix), is that it really keeps me informed on events happening in my area that I had no idea was going on.  Most recently, I saw Nevermore, a one-man show about Edgar Allan Poe (fabulous!). 

Also, another feature I really appreciate are all the reviews and member tips for each event. Sometimes you get really valuable tips and advice that you wouldn't have known otherwise unless you had attended (such as, the event doesn't serve food, or the theater tends to be chilly so bring a jacket.  Good stuff.)

Yay!  I got interviewed by one of the weekly magazine's nifty writers as a "food-storage container expert."  My favorite food storage container?  The Atomic Food Containers, of course! 

I was so excited to see my name in a magazine that I almost showed the page to the cashier and the bag boy at the store.  But I held back and instead brought the magazine to work to show all my co-workers and friends.  Hee hee.

Rare Bird Finds News - Please Read

Hello Birdie Friends!

With a heavy heart, I must sadly announce that Sharla will no longer be a regular contributor for Rare Bird Finds.  Sharla and I made our first Rare Bird Finds post in March of 2006, and it's been a fun ride!  I always looked forward to seeing what finds she discovered and cursing her name for helping to empty out my wallet :)  All of us will greatly miss Sharla's eye for the beautiful and the unusual, but more so, her warm spirit and enthusiasm.  However, she is moving on her journey to take care of her two beautiful toddlers and tending to her jewelry shop (which you really must visit, if you haven't!)

But this isn't the end of Rare Bird Finds!

We will be taking a break in July to clear our heads and come up with some fresh ideas.  If you're signed up for our email digest, you will get an email letting you know when our posts have returned - so please sign up, if you haven't already (the subscription box is on the left column).  But if not, be sure to return Monday, August 3, ok?!

To all of you have been faithful readers these past few years, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  Every day when we post, we post knowing that you're looking forward to our finds.  This blog wouldn't be possible without you.  You keep us motivated, and we love your emails and comments - so keep them coming!

Adopt Me!

Hiya!  I know this isn't the typical post you'd find on our blog, but I wanted to let you know about a puppy I'm fostering.  Leo was going to be put down at the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society when the shelter became full, and through a program with United Hope for Animals, a non-profit, I'm currently fostering him until he gets a permanent home.  He is roughly 8 months to one year old, and weighs about 10 lbs.  He is a chihuahua/rat terrier mix.

Leo is house trained and gets along really well with other dogs - I should know, I have three dogs currently and they all love him.  I wish I could keep him because he's super sweet, but my three dogs already keep me occupied!

Leo is fixed and very loving.  He is a calm and mellow little guy with a playful streak.  He loves his toys!  If you or someone you know are looking for a wonderful dog and you're in the Los Angeles area, consider adopting Leo.  This is one little guy who is getting a second chance and totally deserves a forever home.

We're Going on Vacation!

Want to Write an Etsy Fab 5 Friday?

If you would like to submit a Fab 5 Friday that is dedicated to just cool Etsy finds, we'd love to consider you!  Just follow the directions here on how to submit your finds.  Don't know much about Etsy but still want to write a Fab 5 Friday?  No prob!  We're always taking applications for regular finds, too! 

Mark Your Calendars: Next Week A Fatter Bird

Starting next week, Rare Bird Finds is getting a little fatter - more posts, more finds, more extraordinary discoveries.  Yay!

Also, we want to thank everyone who has submitted applications to join the Rare Bird Finds team.  The volume of applications was overwhelming and flattering.  However, one category is still a little under-represented:  Cool Guy Things.  If you have an interest in posting about cool guy things, then follow the directions and send us an email - we'd love to hear from you!

Dear Birdies,

For almost two years, Rare Bird Finds has posted great finds 7-days a week.  Unfortunately, after a long and hard discussion, we have decided to end Saturday & Sunday posts. 

Readership on the weekend consistently and significantly slips, since many of you read our blog daily while at work or school during the week.  While we enjoy and love finding finds for you, posting seven days a week is time-consuming - as you can possibly imagine!   When it came to negotiating valuable time away from our families and other obligations to post on days when not many of you seem to be checking into our blog anyway, the decision became easier.

We sincerely hope you understand! We thank each and every one of you for reading our blog and making the time we've invested into this hobby of virtual window shopping so worthwhile.  Although we're ending weekend posts, we're looking towards ways to "plump" up the bird with more finds during the week.
