These sponges are made with natural konjac fiber - a vegetable fiber extracted from the plant Amorphophallus konjac. The perennial konjac plant is used to create a flour and jelly of the same name (however the sponge itself is not edible). The sponge dries hard, so it needs to be soaked gently before use to soften. $11 at Jade & Pearl.
